The LEO sausage stand is Vienna’s oldest sausage stand.
Right from the start, it has been our passion to serve the best quality so that everyone feels good and enjoys the food!
Leopold Mlynek Sr. founded the Leo sausage stand in 1928. Later guests included Federal Chancellor Dr. Bruno Kreisky. Since 1991, Vera Tondl, née Mlynek, has been running the family business in its third generation. Patrick Tondl joined the business in 2020 and is now the fourth generation to run the LEO sausage stand.
In 1997, Vera Tondl renovated the stand, which has been shining in turquoise and white ever since. To this day, LEO is a popular meeting place day and night! Artistic events and tastings also take place here. Even film and video shoots or celebrity interviews are not uncommon at LEO.
The legendary Käsekrainer sausage is particularly popular, especially the giant Käsekrainer – BIG MAMA, for one to four people, garnished with homemade sauces, pastries, and savory side dishes. The extensive menu includes 60 dishes and menus, as well as a selection of around 40 drinks! For international guests who like to visit Vienna’s oldest sausage stand, the menu is of course also available in English.
With selected local suppliers, the LEO sausage stand focuses strongly on the best quality and also offers a selection of vegetarian dishes, such as our veggie Bosna and vegetarian cheese sausages. The large assortment is constantly being developed and new products with a modern, trendy touch are being tried out. There are also regular seasonal offers, such as white sausages with pretzels during Oktoberfest.
In 2024, Patrick Tondl and Rene Kachlir from the “zum scharfen Rene” sausage stand founded the Association of Viennese Sausage Stands. With the support of the association’s members, especially Sepp Bitzinger, Würstelstand at the Opera, and Patricia Pölzl from the Würstelstand “eh scho wuascht” at the Central Cemetery, the association succeeds in having Viennese Würstelstand culture listed as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.
In 2028, the LEO sausage stand will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Vienna must prepare for the biggest celebration ever to take place at a sausage stand.
